"We have to look at things realistically," Paul said during a Senate hearing on Tuesday. "There are things we don't like about authoritarian regimes ... but we deal with them every day."
"I believe that Assad will remain, and peace can be achieved only after the start of dialogue with him."
Rand Paul called on the US administration to be open to various possibilities regarding Assad and start a negotiations with him.
During the meeting, he confirmed the US envoy to the Syrian affair, James Jeffrey, that the US position is to reject dialogue with Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, pointing out that the United States is not seeking to drop it.
